The Mercedes-Benz Engine Online M104 was a straight-6 automobile engine that ran from 1989 until 1999. It features a double overhead cam setup with four valves per cylinder and a crossflow cylinder head. From 1997 forward, the M112 V6 replaced the M103. The bore spacing of all M104 engines is the same as that of M103 engines.

As Mercedes needed a compact 6-cylinder engine for their Vito, they agreed to share Volkswagen’s VR6 engine, which they later designated M104.900. Following discussions, Mercedes-Benz purchased the engines half-finished. Other engines with the designation M104 are unrelated to this. The engine cover and air cleaner housing are the only parts included with the Mercedes Benz Engine M104.941.

The top model and sports car, respectively, the 3.0 L (2,960 cc) 24V, completed the M103 12V engine lineup. The M104 featured two overhead camshafts and four valves per cylinder. The bore and stroke specifications are 88.5 mm x 80.2 mm (3.48 in × 3.16 in) with a compression ratio of 10:1.
