M102.983 2.3 16V Cosworth engine
The vendor purchased this 2.3-liter M102 inline-four Cosworth engine Online On Sale about ten years ago. It was designed to be used in a Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.3-16. The engine was co-designed by Cosworth and includes an air conditioning compressor, starter motor, exhaust headers, radiator fan, oil filter housing, hydraulic pump, alternator, power steering pump, intake manifold, and engine mounts. It also keeps parts of the Bosch KE-Jetronic fuel injection system. In Norfolk, Virginia, an exhaust merging pipe and clutch assembly are currently available for this engine at no reserve.
With a Cosworth DOHC cylinder head, the 2.3-liter M102.983 inline-four was originally rated for the US market at 167 horsepower and 162 lb-ft of torque. The black-finished, finned aluminum valve cover features the Mercedes-Benz and “2.3-16” logotype as highlights. The gallery displays deterioration and peeling paint.
The clutch pilot bearing is still in place in the crankshaft despite the removal of the flywheel.
The cylinder head has four-into-two headers loosely linked to it.
The Bosch KE-Jetronic fuel system is missing its fuel distributor, and the intake manifold’s injectors are no longer attached.

Although there is some slight aluminum corrosion on this head, it still looks really good. The head gasket surface has to be cleaned and perhaps resurfaced before installation because it has some scuffs, scratches, and head gasket material left on it. There are no obvious cracks on this head, and the exhaust manifold bolts are not fractured. Included are the intake and exhaust cams, which are in fine shape and show no signs of damage beyond typical wear. Included and in good condition are the valves and valve springs.
